Our world has its own order of things. He is logical and logical. After a certain event, there is always a certain consequence. And this has been proven by history many times. Order is much widespread than it might seem, because sometimes it is hiding in chaos. And even vice versa.

Shin Megami Tensei 2 is the only game in a series that is a direct continuation of its predecessor. From what in the first SMT we have already a whole canonical ending – neutrality. And it is precisely the further events of this path that we see in the sequel.

After the events in the Great Cathedral, more than 50 years have passed. People slowly rebuilt civilization, which led to the creation of a huge metropolis – Tokyo millennium. This city is erected in the same place as the cathedral and covers most of the former Tokyo.

People from around the world are drawn to Tokyo millennia, since the Earth’s infrastructure was badly damaged, and it is almost impossible to survive beyond its borders. Therefore, the rules were formed inside the city, and society was divided into social layers. Someone lives in an elite “center”, someone in the ideal area “Arkady”, and someone in the religious “Holy City”. However, most people get along in the working area “Factory” and in the residential “Valhalla”.

All these areas, the police and generally ruled by the Senate – the head of the Church of the Messiah. While Gaia’s Ring was practically destroyed or sent to the lower world. After all, Tokyo of the millennium is built in the destroyed city, where the World Flood once occurred. When the water left, the earth collapsed, and under the metropolis, demons, members of the gay ring and people whose ancestors became a victim of a nuclear explosion in SMT 1 began to live under the metropolis. Our protagonist named Hawk (Hawk) lives in the Valhalla region, Okamoto trains him so that the guy can win the tournament in Coliseum. But recently, strange memories of the laboratory and the old man who called the names of a kind of unfamiliar people – Zain, Himmel, Bet and Dalet began. And a random predictor in Valhalla completely advises Hoku to remember the name Hiroco.

The game demonstrates the world of the future, therefore it is not surprising that many characters, and especially the protagonist, look futuristic. In Tokyo Millennia, there is even a safe option for training in a virtual world, where hoc. But during one of the training, the protagonist intersects with a strange person in a red tuxedo in a wheelchair – Stephen.

After some time of the search, Hawk and Hiroco find a scientist who has already managed to call the demon to this world. Returning to Madame, Hawk meets Zain – one of the knights of the temple, in other words, an elite police. The guy in a hurry makes Hawk remember his real name. And all the same, the hero sees a fragment of his memoirs with an old man who this time pronounces the name of the protagonist himself – Alef.

It turned out that Alef is a resident of the center, but that old man of memories-Mekat, for some reason called an amnesia from the protagonist and sent him to Valhalla. After the disclosure of the truth, Alef, Zain and Hiroco are returning to the center. By the way, the Senate locks the latter behind bars, because she is also a knight of the temple, but decided to quit her duties and ran into Valhalla.

The heads of Tokyo Millennia welcome Alef with warmth. After all, he is none other than the messenger of God, who is destined to lead people and save humanity. And with the same warmth, they send him to tasks for exterminating demons along with the new partner Bet. Bet is also an elite knight of the temple, and she reaches out to Aleph, wanting to help him at all costs.

After completed instructions from the Senate, the news about the Antichrist is flashed throughout Tokyo of the millennium, which arranges riots. Because of him, even demons began to appear in the center. Alef is ordered to stop him. So the protagonist and Bet intersect with the criminal in the Coliseum.

The terrorist’s name is Dalet, and he perceives the picture of the world in a completely different way, considering the Alef precisely the Antichrist, who needs to be stopped immediately. Unfortunately, during the battle, Dalet takes up over the protagonist, but Beth covers Alef, receiving a serious wound, but thanks to her victim, the protagonist manages to win.

At this moment, the player is given the first choice that will affect his worldview, and in this regard, the developers decided to make some changes. SMT 2 elections that affect the worldview are not as global as in the first part. And all because the developers did not really like the fact that in SMT 1 the selection of the parties is too clearly, understandable and even pathetically divided. Remember the same torment and prepare.

In SMT 2, these elections decided to reduce to smaller solutions in order to emotionally bring Alef closer to the player. After all, few in everyday life decided the fate of the whole country, but the choice to introduce negotiations politely or aggressively is a more commonplace thing for us.

In this case, the game offers us or kill the daler or have mercy. And notice, in this matter, and in some subsequent ones, the game does not allow you to adhere to neutrality. After all, sometimes the balance achieves just from the right amount of chaos and law, and not just in passive observation.

If the player wants to enter the Haos path and kill the daler, then his worldview shift in the corresponding direction. However, dying, Beth pray so that Alef does not kill his opponent. This was her last desire before the girl closed her eyes.

Of course, Bay loses the battle and inferior to Alef. However, Hiroco herself does not want to go anywhere. She believes that she deserved her punishment, and has no more right to be free. In general, her brains were washed, and Alef corrects it simply enough. By force pulls the girl out of the camera, and she returns to normal.

Already together, the heroes are heading to Valhalla to Mekat, but instead they meet a pale bay from the horror and a void instead of the Valhalla region. By order of the Senate, the Angel of the abyss Abaddon swallowed the most densely populated area. No one knows why they did it, and most of all it hit the bay. He correctly served the Senate as an elite police. He acted for the good of mankind. The guy is not ready to endure it, so he began to collect an uprising against the Senate, who lost God’s way.

Meanwhile, Alef and Hiroko think to get to Mekat. Although they do not know whether the old man was alive at all. And while they wandered through Tokyo, the heroes crossed a couple of times with a Dalet, which is still preoccupied with the battle with Alef. Having defeated several times in a row, the Antichrist brought his final plan – with the help of magic, make Alef fall in love with the girl Anun.

Thus, Dalet and planned to kill his enemy. However, everything went awry and the spell acted on Hiroco, who immediately fell in love with the daler. Having run back and forth, Alef took off his spell from Hiroco. This was a lot helped by Anun, who happened so, of her own free will fall in love with Dalet. So in return for help, the charm spell was now imposed on a daler who fell in love with Anun. Running to different parts of Tokyo Millennium, the heroes helped the Japanese gods themselves, gathering all the parts of the Masacado body, rescuing to Amateratas and other related gods. To free the girl, Alef goes to the world of demons using attributes that Hanada used at the beginning of the game. In hell, the heroes find a lover siren, who, upon returning to the world of people, helps to rescue the girl, as a result of which the mind of the inhabitants was freed.

After that, the uprising will finally have enough strength and courage to attack the center, where Alef and Hiroco find a Senate who no longer hides his real form. As it turns out the three elders, these are Archangels Rafail, Uril and Mikhail. It was they who managed Tokyo for the millennium and most likely it was they who killed the Kazai, furnishing everything as an accident. After all, the protagonist of the first game already opposed the law and angels, which went against the plans of God.

Having killed the archangels, we also meet Jehovah himself, who threatens to send Alef and Hiroco to endless suffering. However, these are just words, Alef was able to defeat the Almighty, as well as angels.

She says that she began to rebuild civilization with her counterparts, but the three archangels lost their way. Arkady – an experiment and a landfill for the Senate, where they studied how the millennial kingdom will look like in the future.

Even before this, Alef could notice the oddities, namely the fact that the local residents are too similar to each other, and not even outwardly, but with their behavior. And as it turns out, the whole area of ​​Arkady fought with a demonic force from the world of demons, because the conditional “main server” of this place Alef finds in hell. In reality, residents look like vegetables whose brains are connected to computers. And Himmel himself is not as beautiful as he appeared in the virtual area.

Probably Arkady is the most terrible act of the Senate, so Himmel does not hesitate to attack the heroes, because no one should find out the truth about this place. However, Alef already managed to kill the Archangels and God, so it was not difficult to defeat the disabled person with technology for him.

Now the player is given a choice – to become the head of the virtual district himself or destroy Arkady by killing all the inhabitants in it. This choice will not affect the plot much, but this will affect the hero’s worldview. The first option will include Alef to the law, and the second to chaos.

Continuing his way through hell, Alef and Hiroco are met by Louis Saifer, although the time for the masquerade ended in the first game, so the devil does not hide his real appearance – the fallen angel Lucifer.

Lord Ada kindly says that he has long noticed how the Senate distorted the concept of law. That’s why the devil predicted the imminent destruction of the three archangels, because God turned away from them. Yes, we saw how Yahweh helped them and fought with Alef, but this is not a real Almighty. The mind of the archangels was so distorted that the semblance of God was born, but without power and influence, like the present Jehovah.

Lucifer simply waited for the collapse of this distorted system, and Alef became them. However, the devil is still on the watchman, because the guy is so strong that Lucifer is difficult to suggest where Alef draws his strength from. Everything came down to the fact that Alef is the right hand of God – Satan.

As the legend says that the ancient Egyptian god Seth sleeping in hell, one day will wake up and merge with God’s messenger, which will form as a result by Satan. By the way, specifically this moment the game developers are very satisfied. Megaten has always been about mixing all mythologies in one world, and here they decided to tightly connect two cultures – Egyptian and Christian. After all, Satan and Seth usually collected all the worst in themselves – destruction, death, rage and so on. Well, according to the scriptwriters for them, Seth and Satan are very consonant names. The same thing does Archangel Gabriel, who unexpectedly called the heroes to the top of the center, to the Garden of Edem, where Zain was also located. They, like the devil, persuade Alef to help them, help restore the true, God’s law.

It is this moment in history that is a turning point, where the player chooses his final path – the law, chaos or neutrality. But such an important solution will wait, because the heroes have yet to find out the last and most important grain of information of this world.

In hell Alef and Hiroco draws into the abyss. As it turned out, they fell into the stomach of Abaddon, who swallowed the whole Valhalla. And this means that the heroes have a chance to find Mesat in this place and answers to tormenting questions.

And their theory is confirmed, since inside the demon there are a bunch of intact places, for example, slums and even living madame. And finally, the heroes meet Mesata, who tells everything.

After Kazua chose the path of neutrality, he began to restore civilization. Elders connected to this, or rather, as we know, archangels. They wanted to create Tokyo millennia, and specifically the center, as a rescue ark for people. According to legend, the Messiah was supposed to come to the world, which would save humanity and peace will reign in the world – a millennium kingdom will appear.

By the way, for a reason, the center is made in the form of a pyramid. Although the Bible is not mentioned in the Bible, but over time, many Christians began to believe that the great pyramids would become a castle of Jesus during his second coming.

But time passed, and the archangels were tired of waiting for their savior, so they decided to speed up the process. With the help of brilliant scientists of Mekats and Hanades, the archangels began to clone special people. During this experiment, Gabriel turned away from his brothers, because they disobeyed God, ceasing to wait for the natural arrival of the Messiah. And when the experiment was almost completed, Mekat and Hanads rebelled against the Senate and wiped the memory of the experiment to almost everyone involved, someone more, someone less.

Therefore, Hiroco came to Valhalla to look for a boy, not suspecting that her son was all this time in front of her. The Senate carefully recreated the plot of the Bible, namely the immaculate birth of Jesus. After all, Hiroco remained a virgin, like the mother of Jesus, giving birth to God’s child. Kazuma even expressed this in the design of the girl, drawing a metal plate on the crotch.

And his real image was inspired by the film “Cloud of Reason”, where there was a similar character that controls the virtual world.

Well, Aleph himself gave a gold, divine color, because it was created for one purpose – to portray the second coming of Christ.
Each participant in the experiment has his own number, which displays the procedure for their creation. Alef – prototype number 1, when, as a bay, on the contrary, prototype number 5. But there was another, prototype for number 0 – yuji. Yes, a friend of Kazui was the first, trial attempt to create a messiah with washed brains. These names carry a lot of meanings, so he suggests playing the player to name the characters as you like, but also insists on preserving these names.

Alef – a letter that is closely attached to the Arcana a fool or magician. The fool has always been a hero of his story, a student during a trip. And the magician indicates clarity of the mind and the endless potential of Alef.

Bet – the priestess is attached to Arcana, which means a wise woman and patron.

Though Himmel and a man, his name refers to the Arcana Empress – a mother’s figure. And this is not surprising, because it was he who was the head and breadwinner of the whole Arcadia.

The letter Dalet is tied to the Arcana Emperor, which indicates a cruel and purposeful character of the character.

And the hayn is tied to Arkan A chariot because of his unstoppable power and the desire to fight for his ideals.

Well, or the guy just dreams of an ordinary and natural life. Maybe this was the reason to attack Alef, because Daler thought that he was an antichrist who would only spoil the peace. The Way of Bay means an unshakable desire to go forward to paradise, and no matter what dangers a person will have to go through.

Having drawn a tree of life with existing ways, we clearly see the failure of the entire “Project of the Messiah”. In addition to the universe, sphalets form one figure – Adam Cadmon. The original, perfect and ideal person, but due to the fact that the archangels hastened and decided to take everything into their own hands, their ideal person will never come. Alef, Beth, Himmel, Dalet, Zain connect only half of the SFIROT, leaving the Messiah’s body unfinished.

However, due to the actions of the Senate, this is a tree, the Messiah, the ideal person is in the world of demons, at the very bottom.

Return to the plot. Having told the shocking truth, Mikata dies of injuries, leaving Alef and Hiroco in bewilderment. However, it is impossible to panic, because the heroes must make a decisive choice – law, chaos or neutrality.

Let’s start in order, namely with the law. Once in the Garden of Edem, Alef and Hiroco discover Zaina, who realized his purpose. He is Satan, and the arrived set only confirms the guy’s words. Zain accepted his true form of Satan, the instrument with which God punishes sinners, and the most powerful sinner is now in hell. A sinner who gave people vicious knowledge – Lucifer.

The image of a hay has changed dramatically. Now he wears a strictly dark jacket, and on his face a formidable look. His two images, white and dark, are sent to the Last Judgment, which should always see all points of view, whether it be chaos or law. And it was Satan that was always associated with a terrible court, because he punishes the objectionable to God.

Making his way through the crowds of close devils, we finally meet Lucifer, who took his demonic form this time. Having defeated the devil, the heroes are only going to breathe a sigh of relief, but the mythical dragon Kuzur is breaking out from under the ground. At one time, Yahweh gave Lucifer this dragon to kill all of humanity at the right time, punishing them for sinfulness. But the devil turned away from God for a long time, so before his death he ordered the dragon to destroy Tokyo for the millennium, and most importantly the center itself.

Satan moves the heroes to the top of the center, where other chosen ones have already gathered, and at the same moment the Eden garden is separated from Tokyo Millennium, hiding from the dragon in outer space. The last thing Satan needs to do is to fulfill your duty is to destroy the old world so that the new one can flourish. And so the Eden garden shoots on the ground destroying all living things.

After that, the Almighty himself enters the stage, congratulating Alef, Hiroco and Satan. However, the latter has not yet finished getting rid of sinners, because Yahweh himself has committed a terrible sin – genocide. Although God objects, because only people must be judged for sins, however, the Last Judgment of Satan is indistinguishable – Jehovah must also pay.

After the defeat, Yahweh curses the three and warns that he will be reborn as much as the great will of the universe wishes this. Satan says goodbye to Alef and Hiroco, because in his existence there is no more sense. There were no sinners. All the remaining humanity in the Garden of Edem – Chistye people chosen by God. They will begin a new branch in the development of mankind, starting everything from the very beginning. And Satan will appear again only when this world begins to rot.

On the way of chaos, no matter how difficult it is to guess, Alef and Hiroco begin to help Lucifer. After Zain became Satan, Lucifer immediately releases Kuzuru to destroy the center. However, the Eden garden flies, which forces Alef, Hiroco and Lucifer to shift to his enemies personally.

Killing the angels in the garden of Eden, the heroes finally intersect with Zain, who shows its true form of Satan. Although the dark angel looks terrifying, the heroes were able to defeat the Last Judgment with Lucifer. After that, a furious Yahweh enters the stage, which is perplexed, who dared to kill his convenient tool for genocide.

As on the way of the law, the heroes after the fierce battle won God, again listening to His dying curses and threats. There is no more garden of Eden, but people are saved on earth. And most importantly, demons, mutants, adherents of chaos and unexpectedly Dawn with Anun can finally come to the surface and begin to build a new life without tyranny of a distorted law or God. Lucifer and all the inhabitants of Tokyo from all their hearts thank Alef and Hiroco, offering them to continue to lead people into a new, brighter future.

On the path of neutrality, as usual, the heroes do not accept someone else’s sides, so they must defeat both the forces of law and chaos. If the extermination of angels in the Eden garden fully corresponds to the path of chaos, then in hell, in addition to demons, Alef must kill the Dragon Kuzuru so that he does not harm the inhabitants of Tokyo for the millennium. And after the heroes, Dalet helps a little, prompting the right path, and a lot of Stephen, who reconfigures the terminal so that Alef can get into the Eden garden.

Having defeated Yahweh, the heroes return to Tokyo, where they, as well as Kazuya and Yuk at one time, will help people live in this truly cruel world, where at any moment God or demon can destroy all living things.

It may seem that this is the end, but not really. When the player went through the game, and if he previously completed a small sidewalk with Amateratas and Masakado, he can download the preservation to the entrance to the Edem Garden and go through the new dungeon. He fought for the justice that he believed, but when he realized that he was just a tool in the hands of God, the guy began to obey his master, for his justice simply lost his meaning.

This was not the case when passing SMT 1. The game did not leave in thought and thoughts about the fate of certain characters. SMT 2 is not embarrassed, boldly criticizes religion, namely all the hypocriticality of God, who established laws for people, but is not going to follow them. The game also raises the themes of the blind faith, both the people and the preachers themselves, who are hiding behind God’s word, play with human lives, as they want. It is sad that in our modern world it is nothing more than commonplace.

Probably, we can safely say that it was with SMT 2 ATLUS that have established themselves as a studio that can give out powerful stories with beautiful characters. And actually 35 years have passed and the studio only strengthened this title in the industry.

Unlike SMT 1, the sequel was developed so smoothly and calmly that the scenes are almost interesting and there was no left, except for one aspect. The player was supposed to visit the Arkady district much more often, but because of the deadlines, most plans for this area were not implemented. And in fact, in the course of the game it is felt, because in fact, passing the plot, the player needs to come to Arkady only once, tell Himmel and leave. Even the autopsy of the truth of this area is completely optional, which is strange, because this segment sounds quite important. But this is the only difficulty that arose during the development of the game.

Well, as a predecessor, SMT 2 was ported to PlayStation 1, Game Boy Advanced and iOS with exactly the same changes as the original. The only sad thing is that there is no, and most likely it will not be, the translation of the version from Game Boy Advanced, because “ghostly objects” were added there again, which slightly expanded the world of the game.

The second spinoff is the prequel of this story, where we are told about the past of the hero. He grew up in a children’s shelter with his sister. On one day, Lucifer, for some reason, instills his sister’s body and sends a shelter to conditional hell. Having got out of a huge maze, not without Stephen’s help, the hero meets Lucifer in his sister’s body. The player is given a choice – to kill Lucifer, which means to kill his sister or not, but then the shelter will remain in hell forever. Judging by the fact that Lucifer in SMT 2 is alive, we can assume the canonical outcome of this small story.

Well, besides this, the manga of Shin Megami Tensei: The Wings of the Fallen and SMT 2 was coincided with a short -haired Shin Megami Tensei 2: Jin of the Revival novel.
